Allothroe is a term inspired by Homer. The poet uses the word to refer to humans speaking different languages: ‘πλέων ἐπὶ οἴνοπα πόντον ἐπ΄ ἀλλοθρόους ἀνθρώπουs‘ (‘sailing in the black sea with humans speaking different languages’, Odyssey, rhapsody Α, 183). The phrase today marks a bridge which connects two banks of a river in Frankfurt Main, Germany. Allothroe Europe is a project, involving artists from different European countries, disciplines, and cultures.
We are all sailing in the same boat.
